Google released information on a new algorithm scheduled to begin on 21 April 2015. The update is designed to improve user experience when browsing the internet on mobile phones.
Google wrote via the Webmaster Central Blog:
“Starting April 21, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results.”
The update will give preference to rank mobile-friendly websites above non mobile-friendly. It is believed that over 50% of websites around the world will be affected by this update. Businesses with non mobile-friendly websites that rely heavily on their high Google search ranking to generate business could see a dramatic decrease in their online sales or enquiries.
If you or somebody you know runs a business with a non mobile-friendly website, please tell them to speak to their web developer immediately about this update.
